Harvest Market 24.08.19 – THIS WEEK

This weekend Harvest welcomes the return of Thistle Hut Proteas & Cut Flowers with a colourful range of native floral delights, perfect to brighten up your day or perhaps someone else’s? Plants Direct Tasmania will also be selling a range of plants, shrubs and herbs for the avid gardener and offering general plant care advice direct from the grower.

In the absence of Laos Fresh Farm (this weekend only), Steve’s Vegies will be bringing an even larger load of farm fresh vegetables for you to fill your fridge and family dinner plate. Have you tried their delicious brussel sprouts? At this time of year they are plentiful and with so many health benefits you’d be crazy not to! Did you know that a Swedish man set a Guinness World Record eating a ridiculous 31 brussel sprouts in 1 minute! Now there’s a challenge….

Sandy’s Sourdough and Apiece Sourdough Bakery will be serving their fresh, golden sourdough loaves, bread varieties, and pastries. Advice to any novice Harvest marketgoer is to buy a loaf for later and a baked treat to devour immediately.

You may have noticed our three olive oil producers – Lentara Grove, The Village Olive Grove, and Coronea Grove Olives – are all back at the market after having been absent throughout May and June. The reason was not because they were on holiday, in fact, quite the opposite! They were busy harvesting their crops and processing the fruit to bring you only the finest Tasmanian-grown olive oil and a range of olive products. This week, we feature Lentara Grove in our Producer Profile, where Martin explains the ins and outs of growing, harvesting and processing their olives.

Finally, did you know that the Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market has been announced as a Finalist in the 2019 Launceston Chamber of Commerce Tasplan Business Excellence Awards in not one, not two, but three award categories? Categories include – Outstanding Event; Building Communities; and, Environmental Excellence. Winners will be announced on the 26th October so stay tuned!

See you at the market.

Join us on Saturday!
